Eupatorium cannabinum is presented
Take a look at the pictures below and you will agree. Once the plant starts flowering, you cannot confuse it with anything else, especially in our climate. Hemp seed (Eupatorium cannabinum L.) belongs to the Asteraceae family and its is native to almost all of Europe, but it also grows in Algeria, Morocco and in Asia.
It is a perennial plant that can reach a height of up to 170 cm. It has a typical straight, grooved stem covered with short hairs. Leaves are kind of similar to hemp with a short petiolate and three to five-lobes. In summer, it creates small bisexual flowers that grow in panicles which are pink or reddish. Depending on the location you can see flowers from June to September. They produce a pleasant smell and when the blooming period is over, the plant creates elongated warty achenes, which are spread by winds.
So, what are the health benefits? Eupatorium cannabinum has analgesic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and it also reduces rheumatic pain. It strengthens the immune system and reduces fever by increasing sweating.
