Flowering plants have a calming effect on us, but they also bring beauty, liveliness and positive feelings. A good idea is visit garden festivals and find out which ones will be most likely popular this year. The following flowers are not only beautiful, but they thrive in harsh and scorching summers.
Dahlia – the queen of summer flowers
Dahlia blooms all summer long and produces plenty of deep coloured flowers which are very attractive no matter where you plant them. There is one drawback though. Dahlias are not fragrant. There are many varieties and you can find different sizes, colours and shapes, , so you can choose the one that suits you best. You may plant in a container or in the ground.
Bougainvillea – a beauty for your terrace
In tropical Asia, it is one of the most common plants and you can see it everywhere. It does not require any special care, but it needs a lot of space to grow. Surprisingly, flowers are inconspicuous and tiny and what you admire are the actual bracts. You may also grow bougainvillea in hanging baskets. This undemanding plant requires water and fertile soil only and in return it will give you purple-pink, violet, yellow and dark orange bracts that will delight you all summer long. Do not forget to bring it inside for the winter.

Rudbeckia hirta – is a hairy and beautiful flower that reaches a height between 80 – 90 cm The first thing that you notice are yellow-red flowers. It blooms from June to autumn. People cut flowers and enjoy them in vases, either alone or in combination with other flowers.
Sunflowers
Sunflowers will be very popular this year. No doubt about it. They require little maintenance and are easy to grow. There are many varieties on the market, but the classic golden yellow sunflower with a dark brown centre is still the most popular variety. Did you know that these beautiful flowers last a long time in a vase? Yes, between 7-10 days.
