Surprising use of baking soda in your garden

Baking soda

Apart from baking, baking soda has many uses. You can use it to clean various surfaces or even whiten your teeth so, it should come as no surprise that you can use it in your garden too. It is safe and universal. It works as a fertilizer, destroys fungi and moulds and can even help you to fight some pests. If you do not have it at home get up and buy it!

Pests control

Baking soda can be very useful in pest control. Pests create considerable troubles and even fatal damage. You can use baking soda to fight aphids or whiteflies. Yes, there are many special preparations to fight these pests, but it is always better to try something safer, natural, cheaper and may be as effective as chemicals. So, next time try
baking soda. Mix one teaspoon of baking soda, half a teaspoon of mild detergent and two litres of water. Pour the mixture into a sprayer bottle and apply directly to pests. Use it every day, either in the morning or in the evening (when pests are most active).

Fungal diseases

Baking soda is used in many homemade cleaning products, mainly for its disinfecting properties but you can also use it to fight fungal diseases. If you notice mould on your plants, apply a special baking soda solution directly to the mould. Mix one teaspoon of salt and half a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with one litre of water. Pour it into a spray bottle and apply directly. You will notice that this solution works almost immediately.

Ants control

While ants can be useful, they also spread aphids around your garden and may even destroy certain crops. Simply observe where ants appear and sprinkle baking soda on them. Ants hate that and their numbers will decrease rapidly.
