Save your dying monstera
Monstera is a popular houseplant among us humans, but unfortunately, it is also popular among pests. Are you worried about your plant because its leaves are turning yellow and you noticed suspicious pests on it? You do not have to anymore, as we have the right treatment to cure your plant and keep it healthy. Here is what monstera does not like.
Monstera has gained popularity not only because of its beauty but also because of its general resistance. It is easy to grow but problems may occur from time to time. Monstera deliciosa comes in several varieties and it is particularly popular in our climate.
Why do monstera leaves turn yellow
Thrips are the most common pests that can harm you plant. Their larvae are orange but adults are usually black. Thrips infestation is very harmful and will turn the plant leaves yellow. The first step that you should do immediately, is to shower the plant thoroughly. If this does not help, you need to use a specialized product. Other dangerous pests that frequently attack monstera include spider mites.
How to grow monstera
If your plant has been attacked by pests you need to improve the plant’s living conditions. We recommend transplanting into a more permeable substrate, with an perlite, coconut chips and bark for example. Do not forget to provide a good drainage – use expanded clay. Monstera likes high humidity and you may even move it to your bathroom or use a humidifier regularly.

Garlic against pests
A good idea is to mix a crushed garlic clove into soil to prevent pests. However, monstera may be suffering from other problems as well. If you notice that leaves are getting dark around the edges and are starting to turn yellow in the middle, your plant may be suffering from low temperature or drafts.
Why is monstera turning black?
Another common problem is a fungal disease caused by overwatering. You can tell if you see typical black spots with yellow edges on leaves. Unfortunately, you need to use chemical spray at this stage because you will not be able to save your plant.
What about if leaf tips are turning brown? This may be caused by overwatering, or by dry roots, or even by thrips. First, you need to figure out the cause of this problem and then take the appropriate action.
No holes in leaves?
People grow monstera for its decorative leaves, but sometimes leaves are not as beautiful as they should be. They may be missing the typical “holes”. This may be a sign of insufficient light or lack of proper nutrition as monstera leaves holes have an important purpose. In the rainforest, monstera leaves have holes and cracks because the plant adapts to the surrounding conditions. There are strong and gusty winds in rainforest and the plant tries to reduce the leave surface and let the wind pass through.
