Save orchids with simple tricks
Orchids are very popular flowers and if you look for an ideal gift, then orchid it is. However, even though orchids are so popular, not many people know how to take care of them properly. Is your orchid drying apparently for no reason? Well, follow the proven guide below and you should be ok.
Caring for an orchid may seem a little difficult, but it is not true at all! Orchids are not very undemanding plants. You do not need to water often for example. So, what seems to be the problem?
Proper watering
These tropical beauties love the light, so you need to provide a bright place, but do not expose orchids to direct sunlight. Do not forget that roots also need light. Yes, that is true. So, the best way is to place your orchid in a transparent pot.
Transplant only if absolutely necessary. Orchids do not like changes. And there is one more thing to watch out for. Orchids begin to wither if there is a watering problem. If you give it too much water, roots will not get enough oxygen and that is not good.
How can you tell that your orchid is suffering from overwatering?
You can usually see the first sign on leaves. Too much water turns leaves yellow. If you notice it in time you will be able to save your beauty providing that it still has a healthy root. It does not have to have many of them, but they have to be healthy and green.
Saving a yellowing orchid
First, tilt the pot to the side and carefully remove the entire plant. Clean roots thoroughly from clay and moss. Now, you need to have a disinfected scissorsand cut off any mouldy, rotting or dry roots. This is absolutely necessary, because unpleasant pathogens can easily spread around the entire flower.

Thoroughly clean the flower pot where you will plant your orchid. Mix substrate with water, and then let the excess water drain well. Plant the orchid and put it in its usual place.
Caring for an orchid
Pay attention to proper care, otherwise you will soon face the same problem. Always water orchids when the soil has dried out completely. Use root as a guide– as long the root tips are green, the orchid has enough moisture.
And how to avoid excessive drying? Make a schedule. Water about twice a week in summer and only once a week in winter. That is more than enough. Check the condition of roots.Should you discover any rotting, dry or mouldy roots, remove immediately. This should prevent many common problems. Start fertilizing as soon as you notice new leaves. After that your orchid will start producing flowers.
