Summer is in full swing and you probably check the water in your pool every day, right? Well, if you do not, you should. There are many maintenance activities that you should do if you do not want the water in your pool to turn green. To fix and replace green and dirty water is a time consuming and costly process. Other maintenance activities include checking the filter system, regular cleaning and using the correct pool chemicals. We shall focus on a procedure that is sometimes forgotten but omitting this step may create problems later.

Filter system backwash

Filter system backwash or flush is very important because dirt particles are caught by the sand filter during the vacuuming process. If you do not clean the filtering system, impurities will eventually come back to the pool and clean water will turn green very fast.

How often should you backwash?

Ideally, after each vacuuming of a rather dirty pool. Sand can hold and collect certain amount of dirt, but if you think that your pool is pretty clean you may skip it once, but do not forget to do it later.

A really dirty pool?

If your pool is very dirty (you cannot see the bottom clearly)then it is better to change some of the water volume. This way you will remove impurities directly and they will not through the filter. Pay attention to the amount of water you drained and do not forget to refill the pool up to the previous water level.
