Plants in your bathroom must be able to deal with heat and humidity

Plants

Your bathroom is not a very friendly environment for plants. Thanks to heat and frequently alternating humidity it is a perfect environment for moulds and bacteria. It should be no surprise that only few plants can actually grow in these conditions, but you probably want beautiful plants in any room no matter what… Do not despair there is a solution. You just need to know which plants you can use. Here are some tips.

Tillandsia

This plant is a truly remarkable specimen. It does not need soil for growth as it receives nutrients and moisture from the air – through leaves. It has roots but they only serve as “hooks” the plant uses to attach itself to something suitable to hold on, such as tree trunks, stones, cacti, etc. It comes from tropical rainforests, so humidity and heat are conditions the plant actually needs. It requires almost no maintenance and yet it is a very beautiful plant that will make your room look exotic! Tillandsia is classified as an epiphytic plant. An important requirement is that roots get enough air.

Peace lily (Spathyphyllum)

Another great flower for your bathroom is Spathyphyllum, or the peace lily. It has dark green leaves with an exotic-looking white, yellow or green flower that grows on the top. As exotic as this plant looks, it is rather modest species. It loves shade and moisture and it is therefore suitable for darker bathrooms. The plant will let you know that it needs water in a special way. By shedding or by twisting leaves. It also needs slightly acidic soil.

Orchid

Orchids need no introduction. These are gorgeous plants that produce beautiful flowers that you enjoy for months. The majority of people are well-aware of orchids and their beauty, but it is still a rather unusual flower. What makes an orchid a good choice for your bathroom is that orchid does not need an earthy substrate. It needs a loose soil with bark. Only water when it is completely dry. Orchids originally grow in warm and humid forests and do not need much sun.

Cyperus

Cyperus alternifolius, also known as the umbrella plant, is an interesting plant with deep green leaves. The plant forms tufts of leaves on top of long stems which may grow up to one meter. This plant is also very undemanding. All it needs is regular watering and moisture It is also suitable for hydroponic cultivation.
