Peonies done flowering? If you take an action in time, the next year peonies will flower even more

All flower lovers will agree that peony is an amazing decorative flower that will boost up the look of your garden. However, many flower lovers make mistakes when caring for peonies, which translate into less flower production.

And yet, growing peonies is quite simple. You just need to follow few rules and peonies should reward you greatly. These rules apply even to those plants that just finished blooming. So, what should you do from August to November?

Take scissors and do a little pruning

First, you need to get rid of old and wilted flowers. This is important, because if you don’t, the plat starts producing seeds which is a hard work for the plant and it will weaken the plant for the next year. Correct watering is also important and must be moderate because roots of peonies do not tolerate overwatering. Fertilize with organic fertilizer in August and September.

The right time to propagate peonies is now

Division of bushes is the best way to propagate all kinds of peonies and you should do it in September. Divide a large plant into 3-4 parts and make sure that each part has enough roots and stems, otherwise it may not take root. It usually takes two or three years for transplanted plants to fully develop and start producing flowers. So, you need to be patient in this regard.

And it does not matter what type of peony you grow. It may be Paeonia suffruticosa, Paeonia tenuifolia or Paeonia officinalis. They can all be propagated and cared for in the same way and all young plants need some time to “settle” down.
