Pets

The greatest holiday of the year is approaching and many of us use various plants as Christmas decoration. Many of them are closely related to Christmas and look great, but they can be harmful to pets. We shall take a look at the most toxic ones in more detail in the following lines. Be careful when placing these decoration in your house or apartment.

Mistletoe is a classic, but poisonous

It is a traditional Christmas plant. No matter where you buy mistletoe, it will always contain chemicals such as lectins, alkaloids, and polysaccharides. Even a small amount of these may cause irritation to a dog or cat digestive system. Symptoms may include vomiting, abdominal pain, decrease in blood pressure and irregular heartbeat.

Poinsettia, also known as the Mexican flame flower and is really beautiful. Red and green leaves refresh and beautify any interior. But beware. A Christmas tree may be dangerous too

Some dogs like to smell and even chew needles. Obviously, this is not a good idea. Pine needles contain oils that may cause stomach and mouth irritation and of course, hard needles may cause damage to soft tissues in dog’s mouth.
