How to peel pumpkin seeds correctly

Pumpkin seeds contain plenty of substances beneficial to a human body and they taste great so, it is no surprise that they are used in salads, cereals and other side dishes. But in order to use them, you need to peel seeds well and that may not be easy.

Which seeds to choose?

First of all, no mucus or pulp on the seeds. You can tell easily if you touch seeds with your fingers. If the seed slips out, they are not properly washed and dried.If you notice an unpleasant smell do not use them, even though you may think that nothing bad gets “inside” the seed.

Getting seeds ready for peeling

When you are carving, take care of the seeds too. This is the best time to do that. Place seeds in a strainer and wash thoroughly under running water. This should remove the remains of cellulose and mucus. Drain well, and spread the seeds out on a towel or paper.
Let them dry for 2-3 hours and stir and move them around occasionally. As soon as they are dry, move them to a baking tray and put the tray on a radiator or near another suitable heat source.

Peeling

There are two methods. Unfortunately, neither one is easy. If you choose the first, which is the easier one, you will need scissors and cut the edges of the side of the hull (shell) and press and peel. This method is good if you need to peel a small amount of seeds.

But what about if you have a plenty of seeds? Well, spread seeds on a table, take a roller and gently run the roller over them. Do not damage the core!Now, place seeds in a large container and pour in warm water. Cook for half an hour and most of the hulls should come off and you collect clean seeds.
