Hot water trick to clean wooden utensils
Wooden spatulas or utensils look great but they tend to lose their wooden smell and shine over time. Yes, but do not throw them in the trash! We have an effective method that will help you to keep your wooden utensils clean and virtually odourless.
Wooden tableware is very popular these days. It looks very nice and because it is made of wood it will not scratch sensitive surfaces, even those coated with Teflon. The price tends to be friendly too. So, how should you take care of your wooden utensils? Here we go.
You can clean dirty wooden spoons in a few minutes
The vast majority of people put wooden utensils in the dishwasher – but that is not good. Wood absorbs water and if it absorbs too much of it can crack later – when drying. So, do not use your dishwasher, use hot water only.

Kettle will do the job
Put wooden spoons and spatulas in a suitable container. Make sure the dirtiest parts will be completely submerged when you pour hot water in. Pour hot water right from the kettle in. Piping hot! After few minutes, the hot water penetrates into all cracks and joints, and literally burns the dirt out.
When done, rinse utensils in cold water. You may use a scrub sponge for really stubborn dirt or scorches.
Get rid of foul smell
Dirt may not be the only thing you need to eliminate. Dirty wooden utensils also produce bad odours. Use lemon juice to get rid of bad smell. Rub wooden spoons, cutting boards or other surfaces with a lemon slice and wait few minutes. Rinse under running water and you are done. Your wooden utensils should look like new again and should also be free of unwanted odours.
