Grow lobelia. Here is how
This beautiful plant has many uses and you can grow it in a box on your balcony, terrace or in your garden. Growing is very easy and even beginners can do that. It creates a blanket with tiny flowers that come in many colours but the most famous colour is purple. Flowers are bell-shaped and you can enjoy them until the firsts frosts hit. Lobelia grows to a height of about 30 cm.
Growing conditions
As mentioned earlier, it is not difficult to grow lobelia but you still need to provide at least the basic conditions. The most important one is a bright and sunny location. It can handle partial shade and it will grow fine, but the number of flowers will be greatly reduced. If possible, choose a location protected from strong wins. The only requirement on soil is permeability. No flooded soil. Soggy soil may contribute to fungal diseases. However, certain moisture is required.

Growing from seedlings
When there is no longer danger of freezing weather, you can move or plant seedlings outside. You may sow seedlings at home at the turn of February and March or simply buy seedlings from a garden shop. If you want to grow lobelia in a container do not forget to make few drainage holes and drainage layer at the bottom (pebbles or expanded clay). Lobelia looks great alone or integrated with other plants and it can easily cover 1 square meter or even more.
Care
Water twice a day during the flowering period – in the morning and in the evening. Water should not get on flowers, as they are very delicate and water may damage them. A well-permeable substrate is best, because you want the water to get to the roots easily. Permeable soil will not attract moulds and will not cause unpleasant discoloration. During the season you should fertilize once a month with a multi-component fertilizer. If you want to increase the thickness of the clump, you can prune in August but pruning must be very gentle.
