Golden pothos is not as indestructible as you may think
Epipremnum aureum or pothos has beautiful heart-shaped leaves, making it one of the most beautiful houseplants. It easily adapts to different environments and deals with inconsistent watering and lighting. This sounds like anybody can grow Epipremnum aureum, right? Well, not so fast.
This plant is one of the most popular air purifying plants and can really improve the air quality in your room (if it is big enough) and naturally, it is an excellent choice for beginners, because it tolerates low light, high humidity and lack of water. Nevertheless, even this resilient plant may suffer sometimes and may fade away and die.
Be careful with lighting
Pothos prefers bright indirect light and can tolerate poor light conditions, such as a north-facing window sill. Regular watering is very important but it can tolerate periods of drought. While pothos is generally disease-resistant, there are some situations that can be problematic.

Root rot can kill pothos
This is a fairly common disease of pothos and it can easily kill your plant. If you think your pothos is suffering from a root rot, remove it from its pot and rinse roots with water. Carefully cut off the rotten roots and repot the plant in a new soil.
Yellow leaves
If leaves turn yellow, it may be a sign that your plant is getting old but most often yellow leaves appear due to insufficient watering. One way to prevent yellowing of leaves is to use a proper fertilizer, but fertilize once a month only. Too much fertilizer may be as damaging as a lack of nutrients.
Brown leaf tips
Healthy plants do not have brown leaves, but if your plant does, then one of the most common reasons is too much heat or excessive direct sunlight. These conditions dry the plant out easily and you get brown leaves. Fortunately, you can get rid of brown leaves easily. Cut off dead leaves and move the plant out of direct sunlight.
