Get rid of ants crawling on trees without chemicals
Ants are certainly among pests that gardeners do not like to see. If you notice ants crawling on your plants, you know that there are also aphids. Ants and aphids live in a kind of relationship. They love the sweet nectar that aphids produce. Aphids move wherever ants go, and vice versa. Ants search for aphids. Getting rid of ants crawling on trees is not easy, however, you may try this “home trick” and see if it works for you.
There are many methods but they are hardly effective
Take for example adhesive tapes. They work, but do not hold very well on trees and often fall. This is mainly true for large trees with thick bark. Rain can destroy tapes too. There are various glues that you can apply to a tree trunk but they too fail after some time, plus you may be harming your tree. You can try different chemicals but these usually work on aphids but not on ants.

A simple method?
That is right and you only need a few ingredients:
- soft cloth,
- vegetable oil.
Cut the cloth i.e. the fabric, into thin strips. Soak them in vegetable oil. Wrap around the trunk, for example in the middle of the trunk. When it dries, soak the strip in oil again and repeat. This method is environment friendly and will not harm ants or your tree. Ants will gather around the cloth and when they do, remove them.
Scent trail blocks
Ants follow scent trails and if you wrap the strip around the trunk, you will break the scent trail and confuse them. Ants above the strip will not be able to climb down and ants under the strip will not be able to climb up…
