We put onions in almost every dish because onions give dishes the necessary taste and aroma. Many of us buy extra onions and store them to have them in stock when needed. But storing onions properly is not that easy and incorrect storage often causes onions to go bad. So, so let us take a look how to store onions properly and avoid unnecessary waste. We shall also tell you how to process onions correctly.
First, choose the right type of onions
To do so, you need to check manually every single onion. Yes, that is right. Each onion must be firm and the skin must be closed fully around the bulb. Any cracks will cause problems later. If you find damaged onions, use them immediately. Store in a well-ventilated dark room. If you purchased onion in a net, you should check each piece and hang the net to provide proper ventilation. Plastic boxes must be open. Regular inspection of stored onions is also necessary.

Onions start to sprout…
Before you use all onions, you should select four best pieces and plant them in a flower pot or you may put onions in a bowl but make sure that only the bottom part touches water. Onions will soon form roots and turn green. You can gradually cut off the green top and use vitamins in the kitchen. Onion greens are great in soups or on bread with butter or other spreads.
An interesting trick
Do you have to peel many onions and want to make your work easier? Well, soak onions in a lukewarm water for about 30 minutes. The skins should simply come off in large pieces. Here is another trick how to chop many onions easier. Cut onions in half and put them in a food chopper. Press the start button and you are done and without tears. Do not overdo it. You do not want to blend it too much.
