Deer attacking your garden? Scare them away efficiently.

Animals

A deer is a very beautiful and shy animal but it can wreak havoc in your garden if you let it. It is a herbivore and therefore it will eat any vegetables, even your flowers. It also loves fruit and ornamental trees. If your garden is in a secluded and quiet place, it is very likely that deer will visit you sooner or later. What can you do to make sure that they will not bring a disaster to your garden?

Fence

Probably the simplest solution is to surround your property with a fence. This will discourage not only does and deer, but also any hungry passers-by… Deer and does are very good jumpers, so the minimum fence height should be 2.5 meters. Especially if a doe is hungry, it will try to climb and jump very high.

Take advantage of their shyness

Deer are very shy animals and are easily startled by any sound. It does not have to be any special or strong noise to scare them – empty cans attached to a metal rod will do. If a doe bumps into it or the wind moves it, it will make a sound that can startle these shy animals. You can also hang some bells or other noisy objects on fruit trees that produce sound when touched or you may buy special deterrents in a gardening store. Some of these devices can repel game up to 150 meters.

Controversial methods

There are various methods used by people to scare game out. Some swear that they work like a charm some would never use them. Well, you may try for yourself. One of these method uses things that humans use often. Does are afraid of humans and have an extremely good sense of smell. So, some people hang sweaty clothes on fruit trees, or cut hair and put it in stockings. However, the “human” smell disappears over time and you will need to replace it for a “fresh” one. These devices are effective no more than up to 3 meters.

Plants that deer hate

There are plants that deer enjoy, but also plants that they do not like at all. You can use these plants to demarcate your land. These include sage, lavender, begonia, daffodil, iris, marigold, zinnia, boxwood, pine and spruce. These are inedible and therefore it is likely that deer will avoid them. For example, garlic and onion smell will repel deer. Deer will taste hot peppers but immediately learn that this one is not good and should avoid your place in future.

Other methods

A rather effective methods is to use elektrický ohradníkkolempozemku. Use three different heights: 25 cm, 60 cm and 100 cm. If a doe is suffers from an electric shock, it will surely run away.
