Caring for English lavender in autumn
English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is a very popular aromatic herb. However, if you do not care for it properly it will lose its density and beauty over time. Proper care is very important and autumn is the perfect time to start caring.
When and how to plant lavender
You can transplant English lavender in the spring or in the fall. However, autumn tends to be better because the soil in autumn is still relatively warm and still contains sufficient moisture and you do not need to water as often. The best time to transplant and propagate is during the month of October.
Remember that lavender needs at least 2 months to take root after the transplantation and this must happen before the cold weather arrives.

Transplanting
First, you need to choose a suitable place and take into account the conditions that lavender needs. Dig planting holes but make sure that they are the correct depth and size. Observe the required distance between bushes which should be
0.3-0.4 meters between seedlings. If you have tall species increase the distance to one meter. The depth of the planting hole should be about 30 centimetres.
Divide overgrown bushes into several parts and plant them separately. Carefully remove lavender bushes from the ground and divide them into individual seedlings. The best way to do it and to eliminate risk of damage or catching a disease, is to use a sharp garden knife. Disinfect the night before cutting.
Each seedling must have at least 6 shoots with developed roots and young buds. The number largely depends on the size of the original plant. Treat cuts with potassium permanganate solutionor use crushed wood charcoal.
