Care for your garden in January properly and make your life easier in the spring
How should you take care of your garden at the end of January? Do you have a work schedule for the whole week? Do not think that your garden is in a full rest and you do not have to do anything in January. Even in January you can do some preparatory work. So, what is it?
Grow fresh greens and stalks
You can plant smaller celery or parsley in flower pots and have fresh shoots . Celery stalks are rich in vitamin C and minerals. If you are a zodiac fan then you should know that the Moon is under the Virgo sign and these are the days of the root. What does this mean? Well, that means that individual plants will take root and grow best if you plant them during this period…
The importance of proper ventilation
If the outside temperature is above freezing, you may ventilate your warehouse or basement. Do not forget to check stored fruits and vegetables including dahlia and gladiolus tubers for example. Move containers or flowerpots with bulbs (crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths) to a room where the temperature is around 20 °C. This temperature is good for these plants. If you can keep them in a winter garden for example do so. If you do not have a winter garden, try a hallway where the temperature is a bit cooler.

Check your garden tools
These winter days are good time to check your tools. You can sharpen scissors, spades or hoes. You may also paint greenhouse frames and disinfect and clean containers. Another good activity is to prepare labels for sowing. If you look around carefully, you should find plenty things to do and be ready for the season. Naturally, by having everything ready you will safe time later.
Watch the weather
If you expect strong frosts you may protect flower and veggie beds (lettuce, biennial flowers) by covering them with a non-woven fabric or twigs and sprigs. Burn or bury fruit affected by moniliosis to make sure that it will not spread. If you try, you will find many things you can do in the winter and to be better prepare in the spring.
