Apple puree – a great dessert with little sugar and plenty apples

Apple puree

An apple puree or sauce is a great way to use and store your apple harvest. You can use it in various recipes and enjoy it almost “gilt-free” because it contains much fewer calories than fats in sweet pastries. The real applesauce or puree does not contain added sugar as they are naturally sweet (based on the sweetness of apples you have). One cup of applesauce contains about 100 kcal. If you add almonds, pistachios, raisins, peanut butter or pastries, you will get a great snack rich in proteins, carbohydrates, fibre and healthy fats.

Great addition to sweet pastries

You can add applesauce to regular pastries instead of traditional fats such as margarine, butter, oil or shortening. The finished product has a mild but more pronounced taste andit will be less sweet than what you are used to, but that is not a bad thing. Especially, if you are making pastries for small children. Fibre in apples will keep you full longer than sugar and you consume fewer calories.

Snack for children

Children as young as 6 months can eat apple puree becauseit is easily digestible and even undeveloped digestive system of small children can handle it. You can use it alone or with biscuits, yogurt or porridge.
