An ordinary milk can boost your cucumber harvest
Do you want to grow big and succulent cucumbers? Of course you do and today, we want to give you an idea for a “rocket fuel” to do just that. An ordinary milk. Yes. Our ancestors knew about this trick, so they let cucumbers drink “a glass of milk” from time to time. What makes milk so special and why should you give it to cucumbers? Well, read on and you shall find out.
Milk is a great source of nutrients
Milk is loaded with many important nutrients and trace elements. For example:
-
- magnesium,
-
- calcium,
-
- manganese,
-
- iron,
-
- copper ,
- potassium.
The big advantage of milk is that it is a natural fertilizer and it is safe. We shall also mention that cucumbers need nitrogen and milk is loaded with it.

Soil pH balancing
Milk can optimize the pH of the soil and help nutritious microflora. Here are few tips how to prepare a milk fertilizer
Preparation
Nothing complicated. Dissolve one litre of sour milk or fermented milk in 10 litres of water. Add 3 drops of iodine and that is it.You now have a ready-to-use fertilizer. One cucumber plant should get 1 litre of fertilizer. Some recipes recommend diluting milk with water in 1:2 ratio, but we think that it may be too strong for some plants. A note: Do not use long-life milk that has not been highly pasteurized.
