An interesting experiment. What happens if you heat up soap in a microwave oven

Soap

Science is a very useful tool, but it may also be fun. It may also save you money and here is a little fun experiment you can do. All you need is soap. You may do this experiment at home with no worries. Here is how.

Do not worry. You will not destroy your microwave oven

Take a soap bar and put it in a suitable container and put it in a microwave oven. Set the power to medium and heat for 2 minutes. Within ten seconds you should see the soap puffing up. Do not worry.

The more you heat it up, the more the soap changes. It will grow and turn into a huge fluffy lump. After a minute or so, it will resemble a huge soapbubble.

A soap bar contains air bubbles and these cannot be removed during the manufacturing process. When heated, air bubbles increase in size and they try to ”get out” forcing the soap to grow in the process.

Two minutes are enough for a small miracle

After 2 minutes, the small soap bar becomes a soft and giant bubble. It will not be foamy, but it will resemble a pudding. Can you actually use the soap bubble for something? Yes, you may use it to wash your face or as a replacement for your shower gel. The new shape will last you several weeks! You just created a huge soap from a little soap. Pretty efficient, right?

Your children in particular will like it. Invite them towatch this interesting experiment and they will love it. Try making a soap soufflé but make sure to have a bowl big enoughto make sure that all the extra soap will not spill out.
