Correct watering to avoid orchid bud and leaf drying

Orchids are most beautiful when they are in bloom, but sometimes they have problems blooming. Their buds shrivel, turn yellow and dry out. In this article we shall advise you how to prevent that. Remember one thing though. If you want many flowers, you need to take care of your orchid all year round and not just during the flowering period.

Although Phalaenopsis is one of the easiest orchids to grow, some people experience problems growing it, which usually occurs due to a failure to provide correct growing conditions. The first sign of trouble is leaf fading and wilting. So, what is the cause?

Incorrect watering

Orchids are very sensitive to excessive watering and if you overwater or if you let water stand in the flowerpot, then you will have a problem sooner later. The important thing is to let the roots dry out properly before each watering. This gives the plant time to recover and the required time is pretty long actually.

Excessive watering is harmful for another reason too. It can promote the occurrence of fungal diseases. For example, fusarium of leaves and roots is very dangerous and you need to use chemicals to get rid of it.

Do not to let your orchids to get cold

Low temperatures can also cause leaf and bud wrinkling or yellowing. Although orchids like temperature differences between day and night, they cannot tolerate temperatures below 15 °C. So, if you grow an orchid in winter near a window that is not sealed sufficiently or that is often opened, your orchid can freeze to death.

Too much sun may also be a problem

Insufficient light is also often responsible for bud fading and yellowing. The plant does not like strong sunlight at all, but a lack of a natural light (not sunlight actually) is harmful as well, causing orchids to shed leaves and fail to produce flowers.
