Get your greenhouse ready for the spring
A greenhouse is a must for every gardening enthusiast but mainly for all plants that cannot deal with morning frosts that usually come with spring. At the turn of February and March, gardeners say goodbye to winter and welcome spring. Great, but this requires a thorough check and repair of any greenhouse to make it ready for the upcoming season.
Get rid of diseases and pests hibernating in the soil
The first thing you need to do is to remove all plant debris that may still be in your greenhouse. If you do not, you may face serious problem during the upcoming season. Various pests and diseases are still living or “sleeping” in the soil. Especially, if the winter was mild. So, if you did not change the soil after the last harvest, you need to do it now. You can also use nitrogenous lime, which is great to fight pests, disease germs and slugs. If you did use lime do not plant immediately. Wait at least 3 weeks before planting .
High-quality soil is absolutely necessary
Even the best greenhouse will not work without high-quality soil. Yes, soil in flower beds lasts for several years, but you replace it from time to time anyway.A good idea is to replace soil once every five years and you should go to a depth of about ten to fifteen centimetres. You will sweat a bit, but you know that. Do not dispose the old soil. You may use it for your outside flower or veggie beds and used soil from outside beds in your greenhouse. Of course you need to fertilize it before you put it in.

It is not about the soil only
You should also disinfect greenhouse walls and the entire greenhouse structure including glass or plexiglass. You do not have to use chemical disinfectants. An environment friendly substances will do the job too. Ordinary vinegar for example. Plants need light and naturally, clean glass will let more light through. Do not forget to clean all containers for your new seedlings.
Fresh air does wonders
After winter, your greenhouse needs to take a deep breath and fresh air is important for soil and plants. But ventilation just before spring is not enough. You need to do it throughout the summer too. Without proper ventilation your greenhouse can become a sauna and very high temperature and humidity are not good for many plants. Some modern greenhouses are equipped with automatic window openers, which automatically open or close windows based on the outside temperature and thus creating the best growing conditions for your plants.

Considering a new greenhouse? Great! This is the perfect time do get one
If you want to improve your greenhouse or get a new one, this is the right time to do so – before the new season starts. New greenhouses come with many gadgets that will increase your harvest. And what are the most important features? “You should definitely focus on the material the greenhouse is made of. The best material is high-quality galvanized steel as it provides strength and durability and requires almost no maintenance. As for windows, polycarbonate panels with a UV filter are best. They are durable and offer better thermal insulation properties. If you want to save money and want a high-quality greenhouse, look for a greenhouse that does not require a base for assembly. Another very practical and functional gadget is an automatic roof window opener. You may set the system to a certain temperature and prevent possible overheating, “explains Marek Vaniš from Penta CZ, specializing in garden equipment, and adds: ” The warranty provided by the manufacturer speaks best about the product quality. Naturally, the longer the warranty, the better the quality of the greenhouse. For example, Penta CZ provides a 10-year warranty against rust.”
