Few tricks to make potato taste better
Do you love potatoes? Well, the huge majority of people do and cook potatoes in many ways. But you may be killing the taste in the process. Cooking potatoes in particular changes the taste and today you can try different cooking process. Well, cooking potatoes is a pretty straightforward process so, how can anyone mess it up? Boiled potatoes taste like boiled potatoes no matter what you do, right? Well, the opposite is true. Here are few tricks how to cook potatoes correctly and make them taste as good as possible. We shall also include tips for baking potatoes.
How to cook potatoes properly
Peel potatoes and wash them thoroughly. That should be obvious. As soon as you are done cut them into two or more parts and immerse them in water for about 20 minutes. This procedure will wash starch out. Now, put potatoes straight into a pot with boiling water. If you start cooking potato in cold water, they will lose useful substances and you do not want that.

Add salt just before you finish
Do not put salt at beginning of boiling because they tend to remain hard and they lose their delicate structure. You want to keep that. Adding salt at the beginning also extends the cooking time. As for the salt ratio, it should be 1 teaspoon per 1 kg of potatoes, or per one litre of water.
How long should you cook?
First, make sure that all the potato pieces are fully submerged in the water. When done cooking, you need to remove excess moisture from potatoes by letting them rest in the pot with a lid. That is after you have poured the boiling water out of course. New potatoes are usually cooked for 15 minutes on medium heat.
Milk
Some people add 250 ml of milk, a little butter and onion when boiling potatoes. This process makes potatoes very soft and creamy.
A piece of carrot
When cooking potatoes, try adding a one piece of fresh carrot to the pot. Carotene protects vitamin C in potatoes. This way potato will retain more vitamin C.

Want to speed up the cooking?
Okay. Add a little bit of baking powder to the water. This should speed up the cooking process.
Baked potato tricks
Add baking powder on potatoes before baking. Baking powder will make potato very crispy and you will use much less oil. Flour or breadcrumbs work well too.
