We all know this. You brought home beautiful red tomatoes, but the taste does not match the beautiful red colour at all. Is there something you can do about it? Correct harvesting is very important and it impacts the taste a lot, but still, there is something you can do to improve the taste.
If you do everything correctly, you may improve the taste of store-bought tomatoes.
Beware of green tomatoes
There are plenty recipes for green tomato delicacies and you can see green tomatoes in stores from time to time. But you need to be careful because green, unripe tomatoes contain a toxic substance called solanine, which irritates the nervous system and causes headaches and dizziness.
Do not give green tomatoes to children. once tomatoes turn red, you do not need to worry about toxic substances. Tomatoes are well known for their ability to ripe during storage.

Tomato ripening process
If you “force” green tomatoes to ripen quickly, the result will not be good. For example, if you put green tomatoes in a bowl and expose them to sunlight and relatively high temperatures, the fruit will only get softer and deteriorate. You need to apply proven tips and wait few days and enjoy delicious tomato taste later.
Here is how. Wrap individual tomatoes in a paper tissue and place them in a box with ripe apples. A bowl is okay if you have only few tomatoes. Add an apple to the bowl and cover it with surround wrap to create a stable environment. You can also put tomatoes in a large glass container or jar and cover it. Do not forget to add the apple! And why an apple? Ripe apples release ethylene, which in turn accelerates the ripening process of tomatoes.
