No trip to the pharmacy as quick relief is ready. Carrots are very healthy and used in many dishes, soups, salads, stews, etc. We all know that but few people know how to make a cough syrup from carrots.

Many uses of carrot syrup

Homemade carrot syrup will come in handy when you want to alleviate cough symptoms but also when you want to fight various colds, flu and respiratory infections. Carrot syrup is used to dilute mucus and to help expectorate phlegm, which reduces the urge to cough. It also strengthens the immune system. Carrot syrup is not only a remedy but it also tastes great so children will have no problem with it.

Strong combination of ingredients

Carrot syrup consists of three basic ingredients:

  • Carrot: rich in antioxidants which give carrots the typical orange colour. It also contains beta-carotene, which supports proper functioning of the immune system.
  • Honey: an effective agent that many people put in tea. Honey is a natural antibiotic and destroys viruses and bacteria.
  • Ginger: one of the most famous natural ingredients used to fight colds. It has a warming effect, and kills viruses and bacteria. It also thins mucus and supports expectoration of phlegm.

Homemade carrot syrup

Making carrot syrup is easy. Peel carrots, cut into pieces and put in a pot. Pour water in and make sure that all pieces are submerged. Cook until slightly soft. Add peeled and grated ginger and cook everything until soft. When done, let it cool down a bit and stir in four tablespoons of honey. Pour into a glass and store in the refrigerator.

Dosage

Use carrot syrup four times a day – two tablespoons per one dose for adults and one tablespoon per one dose for children.
