The secret of planting onions in winter
There are two groups of gardeners. One group prefers plating in the fall and the other one in the spring. If you plant in autumn, you will have an earlier harvest, which will make your life easier the spring, because we all know that there is plenty of work to be done in spring. On the other hand, there are frequent rains in autumn and too wet soil can cause onion to catch mould and destroy you early harvest…
Measures against mould
You can use special preparations to presoak onions to make them more resistant to fungi and pests and yes, it is highly recommended. But if you want to be friendly to the environment you can make your own solution and save some money in the process. Further, this solution adds an important nutrient to onions – iron, which improves the absorption of some other nutrients from the soil, especially nitrogen.

Mix 1 tablespoon of birch tar and 2 tablespoons of liquid soap with 1 litre of water – room temperature water. Pour this solution in the bowl with onions and leave covered for about 2 hours.
